Last week I had the pleasure of attending a tasting party for OPUS Hotel’s Cento Notti hosted by John Evans in his palatial pad high above the city streets. Eclectic and conversation worthy art work covered the walls, including a rather impressive painting by Attila Richard Lukacs of a young man with an aggressive case of flatulence. The views north east of Gastown and the mountains took breaths away and confirmed that my decision to stay in Vancouver was the right one.
Peering into the kitchen for a glimpse of the chefs at work, I felt my taste buds well up at a mere peek of the Spring menu we were about to indulge in.
Caprese Salad, Ahi Tuna Carpaccio, Burrata, Rack of Lamb… heaven in sinful bite-sized pieces. Who says sins aren’t allowed in heaven?
Created by chef Paul Marshall, the menu pays homage to classic Italian cuisine tangled in a dance with contemporary North American fare. It’s a truly compatible pairing. I will be taking my high heels to a Cento Notti bar stool soon for more delightful sins of gastronomy and a tale or two.
Lessons learned from the Cento Notti Spring Tasting Party:
1.There’s something about sipping succulent wine, nibbling delicious treats, and being surrounded by beautiful design that truly defines living la dolce vita.
2. After chatting with a woman about her daughter’s shock at an older business contact’s insistence to meet face to face regarding a referral, it really reaffirmed how online focused my generation is. It’s far better to meet with someone face to face than make arrangements via email, text, or phone. Take 15 minutes out of your day to take a physical meeting.
3. I’m not the only one who still raves about My So-Called Life. The impact that show had on women of my age group still reverberates around a room and brings people together more than a decade later.
